Orangetown Remembers September 11 With Ceremonies, Art Project

The Town of Orangetown and Dominican College will hold events on the anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The Town of Orangetown will remember the 9/11 terrorist attacks at 6.

"There will be music and recognition of that tragedy," Orangetown Supervisor Andy Stewart said during a town board meeting last week.

Dr. Judy Kuransky, a clinical psychologist and radio talk show host, will address the importance of the anniversary of a crisis as part of the ceremony, which is hosted by the Town of Orangetown and the Police Benevolent Association. There will also be music and the names of Rockland County residents who died that day at the World Trade Center will be read.

Earlier in the day, . Participants will create art in memory of September 11 in an event open to the public from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Lawrence Room at Rosary Hall, which is located on the Dominican campus at 480 Western Highway in Orangeburg. 

Art supplies will be available. Organizers of the event ask that they register ahead of time if possible at the United Way website here

Among other September 11 memorial events today are:

Rockland County Poet Laureate Dan Masterson, a Pearl River resident and professor at RCC, will read his poem Out of the Blue. Student veterans will read the names of victims of the attacks with connections to Rockland County.
