Pearl River Boys Lacrosse Starts Slow in Loss
Monroe-Woodbury defeated Pearl River, 10-6, Wednesday.
The Pearl River boys lacrosse team started slowly and never caught up in a 10-6 loss to Monroe-Woodbury at home Wednesday.
The Pirates (1-1) trailed, 5-1, at halftime before closing the gap to two goals at 7-5, but could get no closer.
"Monroe came to play for 48 minutes," Pearl River Head Coach Al Staker said. "They definitely took it to us in the first half. The second half, we made a nice run to cut it to two with two men off (in the fourth quarter). Our guys played har for 24 minutes, not 48. You're not going to win many games like that."

Pearl River had opened the season with a strong offensive performance in a 9-6 victory over Westlake Tuesday, but struggled to get shots on goal early Wednesday.
"Yesterday, we were as good on offense as we've been in a while. Today we started off stagnant," Staker said. "Hopefully, we can take the positive and build on it (from these first two games). We showed ourselves we can play well. We can put the ball in the goal and play good defense. But we also showed we have to do it for 48 minutes."
