Pearl River CYO Basketball Coaches Face Off

The 6th Annual St. Aedan's vs. St. Margaret's CYO Coaches Challenge basketball game is set for 5 p.m. Saturday at Pearl River High School.

Marty Fogarty laughed at the the description of St. Aedan's vs. St. Margaret's CYO Coaches Challenge basketball game as a fun event.

"It's fun, but nobody is playing to lose," Fogarty said. "It's definitely competitive. For some more than others."

Each year the coaches for the two Catholic Youth Organization basketball programs in Pearl River play a game to raise funds. They play 5 p.m. Saturday at Pearl River High School.

In addition ot the game, volunteers for both organizations will be recognized and they will be giving out scholarships. They will also raffle of free registration for basketball camps run by local coaches such as Dominican College's Joe Clinton, Pearl River's Jerry Houston, Jr. and Lorraine Moylan and Pat McFadden and Pat Buckley of Albertus Magnus.

Tickets to Saturday's game cost $2 for adults, $1 for children and $5 for a family. There will be a party from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Knights of Columbus in Blauvelt with a DJ, open bar, buffet and prizes. Tickets to the party cost $100 per couple.

Proceeds from the event go toward scholarships and equipment for the CYO programs, helping to keep registration costs down. The St. Aedans and St. Margaret CYO basketball programs provide games, beginners clinics and cheerleading for children in Pearl River, Orangeburg and Nanuet. 

Coaches and assistant coaches participate in Saturday's game. St. Margaret's holds a 3-2 lead in the series.
