Pearl River Field Hockey Looks to Build on Strong Summer

The Pearl River field hockey will look to build on a strong offseason starting with it season opener at home 4:30 p.m. today against Fox Lane.

The Pirates graduated five seniors, but return 12 players from the team that went 5-9-3 in 2012, 5-5-3 in league play. Those players teamed to win the championship at the Sound Shore summer league.

"I am very excited to get going with games," Pearl River Head Coach Shane Carlacci said. "We have been working hard in practice and played well in our scrimmages. The girls have been spending a lot of time together and have really clicked."

Pearl River feature a strong junior class including attackers Jackie Dowling and Kristen Sammon and midfielders Corutney Ocasal and Erin Dolphin. Senior Deirdre O'Malley is a key returning player on defense.

That group opens with league games today and Sept. 9 at Ossining before opening league play at Nyack Sept. 10.
