The Pearl River football team's hopes of avenging last season's defeat faded with a 31-0 loss at John Jay-Cross River in the first game of the season for both teams Saturday.
"We failed to execute on every level," Pearl River Head Coach Jeff Michael said. "We did not translate our game plan from the practice field to the game field."
The Pirates will have a short week to try to turn things around with one of the top teams in Class A, Harrison, coming to Pearl River 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
