The Franklin Avenue Elementary School Playground Committee is selling personalized bricks as part of its ongoing fundraising efforts.
With the committee approaching its goal to raise enough money for a new playground at Franklin Ave. Elementary School in Pearl River, the school district found itself needing a policy for personalized bricks on district property.
The Pearl River Board of Education passed a resolution during Tuesday night's meeting in the district administration building, setting restrictions on what can be inscribed on the bricks. The policy also gives the board of education discretion over the placement of bricks on school grounds. The full resolution can be found through the school district website here.
"On advise of legal counsel, the board put something in place for this going forward," said Pearl River Director of Human Resources and Community Services Diana Musich.
The school board also approved the adoption of a new textbook for the district's Level four and five French courses --Imaginez -- le francais sans frontieres from Vista Higher Learning. The district reviewed several options, matching them against New York State Education Department curriculum guidelines for languages other than English. Pearl River Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Sue Wheeler said they expect to purchase 35 copies of the new textbook.
