Pearl River Shuts Out Port Chester in Baseball Playoffs

No. 10 Pearl River jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a 10-0 victory at home against No. 23 Port Chester in a Section 1 Class A preliminary round playoff game Tuesday.
Pearl River will play at No. 7 Byram Hills 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Bobcats beat the Pirates in a first-round playoff game at Pearl River a year ago and lost when the teams met to open the 2013 season.
In Tuesday's game, Pearl River starting pitcher Kevin Considine homered in the bottom of the fifth inning and combined with relief pitchers Mike Imbarrato and Mike Murphy to hold Port Chester to only one hit. Chris Beers had three hits and drove in three runs for the Pirates.
Pearl River put pressure on Port Chester by being agressive on the bases from the beginning. In the bottom of the first, leadoff batter Rich Masley bunted for a single, stole second and moved to third on a passed ball. He scored on a grounder by Beers, beating the shortstop's throw home. Beers came around to score later in the inning on an error for a 2-0 Pirates lead.
Pearl River added two more runs in the second when Beers doubled home Chris Flood, then scored on a single by Shane Ocasal.
