Pearl River Shuts Out Port Chester in Baseball Playoffs

Junior pitcher Kevin Considine struck out 10 in five perfect innings and homered in the bottom of the fifth to lead No. 10 Pearl River  to a 10-0 victory at home against No. 23 Port Chester in a Section 1 Class A preliminary round playoff game Tuesday.
Pearl River will play at No. 7 Byram Hills 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Bobcats beat the Pirates in a first-round playoff game at Pearl River a year ago and lost when the teams met to open the 2013 season.
In Tuesday's game, Port Chester's Jason Ippolito broke up a combined perfect game with a leadoff single in the seventh. Reliever Mike Murphy induced a ground ball for a double play, then recorded the final out to complete the one-hit shutout. Mike Imbarrato had pitched a perfect sixth inning.
Chris Beers had three hits and drove in three runs and Pat Gannon went 2-for-4 with three RBI for the Pirates.
Pearl River put pressure on Port Chester by being agressive on the bases from the beginning. In the bottom of the first, leadoff batter Rich Masley bunted for a single, stole second and moved to third on a passed ball. He scored on a grounder by Beers, beating the shortstop's throw home. Beers came around to score later in the inning on an error for a 2-0 Pirates lead.
Pearl River added two more runs in the second when Beers doubled home Chris Flood, then scored on a single by Shane Ocasal.
