Pearl River Softball Holds Off North Rockland

Pearl River won at North Rockland, 4-3, Tuesday.

Down two runs in the bottom of the seventh, North Rockland put runners at second and third base with nobody out Monday against Pearl River.

Pirates pitcher Mandy McCarthy got out of the jam with only one run scoring, retiring the home team on a play at the plate, a strikeout and a ground out to give Pearl River a 4-3 victory.

McCarthy struck out nine and gave up 3 runs on seven hits and two walks for the Pirates (1-1).

Pearl River sophomore Katherine Gibride doubled home two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Freshman Julie Marsico singled and scored on a hit by Erin Woods in the third and doubled home Caroline Kardashian in the fourth. Woods was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. 

Pearl River's next game is 4:30 p.m. Friday at Clarkstown South, a rematch of the Pirates' 1-0 season-opening loss last week.
