Pearl River Sports: Moroney Hurdles Competition; Cook Earns County Three County Titles

Pearl River's Amanda Moroney won both the 100 and 400 Meter Hurdles and the Pirates finished second in the girls team standings at the Rockland County Track and Field Championships Thursday and Friday at Tappan Zee High School.
Moroney ran the 100 hurdles in 14.7 seconds and the 400 in 1:05.1 to win her two county championships. She also took third in the triple jump. Teammate Kelly Hayes ran the 3000 in 10:00.2 to win the county championship and finished second to defending champion Kate Zendell of Suffern in the 2000 Meter Steeplechase. Hayes did not run the 1500, the event in which she recently set a county record. Hayes, Catherine Rayward, Allison Moroney and Danielle Muchoe teamed to win the 4X400 relay in 9:39.3.
Pearl River's Sandra Wilson won the mixed high jump, took second in the Pentathlon and the 800.
Emma Burnett also won a title for the Pirates with her distance of 100-09 in the discus. 
On the boys side, Brian Cook won three county championships, taking the 2000 Meter Steeplechase with a time of 6:03.7, the 1600 Meter Run in 4:22 and the 3200 Meter Run in 9:42. The Pirates finished fourth in the boys team standings.
The Pirates will get a home-field advantage for the Section 1 Class B Track and Field Championships 9 a.m. Saturday at Pearl River High School. It is the second time in three years the section finals have been held at Pearl River, which is one of the few schools in Class B that has the equipment for the Steeplechase.

Baseball Playoff Pairings Today
The Section 1 baseball playoff pairings meeting is scheduled for today, with preliminary-round games Tuesday.
Pearl River is near the middle of the pack in Class A and may have to play in the preliminaries.
The Section 1 softball pairings meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, with prelims Thursday.
