Pearl River Sports: Softball Splits; Track League Finals Monday
The Pearl River split two games over the weekend while the baseball team lost to Tappan Zee in the Kayser-Bello Memorial Game. The boys and girls track and field teams will compete for the league championship at home Monday.
The Pearl River boys and girl teams will compete for the League 4-B spring track and field championships 4 p.m. today at home.
The Pirates went undefeated, 4-0, in their boys and girls league dual meets this season.
Albertus Magnus, Nanuet, Nyack and Tappan Zee make up the rest of the league competition.

The Section 1 Class B championship meet, set for May 25, will also be held at Pearl River.

The Pearl River softball team missed on an opportunity to beat the top-ranked team in the state when Eastchester rallied for five runs in the top of the seventh to beat the Pirates, 6-5, Friday.
The Pirates scored five unearned runs against Eastchester, which made eight errors. Sam Alicandri singled twice and scored a run, Caroline Kardashian doubled and drove in a run and Mandy McCarthy singled, walked and scored a run for Pearl River.
Eastchester's Kristen Martin went 3-for-4 with three RBI, including a two-run double in the seventh. Danielle Rella's two-out single brought home the tying and winning runs with the help of an error.
Pearl River rebounded to beat Harrison, 2-0, Saturday. McCarthy struck out three while throwing a three-hit shutout. She was also 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and a run scored. Katherine Gilbride was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
- Baseball: Tappan Zee 6, Pearl River 3 -- The Dutchmen scored six runs in the first two innings, five unearned, on the way to the victory in the Kayser-Bello Memorial Game Friday. The Pirates are now 8-4-1 heading into today's home game against Clarkstown North.
