Pearl River Sports: Stacey Sennas McGowan Game Saturday

Stacey Sennas McGowan played for the inaugural Nyack High School girls lacrosse team in the late '70s before graduating in 1981.

Twenty years later, she lost her life in the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center.

The Pearl River girls lacrosse team will help honor McGowan's memory when the Pirates play Nyack in the annual Stacey Sennas McGowan Game 6:30 p.m. Saturday at MacCalman Field in Nyack.

Pearl River got involved in the game through Head Coach Laurie Mayernik, a Nyack graduate and high school friend of McGowan's.

Rain Disrupts Schedules

Two days of rainouts could create scheduling challenges for Pearl River and other Section 1 schools, especially in boys and girls lacrosse with the playoff seeding meetings set for May 14.

The Pearl River boys' league game at Nanuet was cancelled for the second consecutive day Thursday and rescheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday. The Pirates had to get that in before next Tuesday and they were already scheduled to play 5:15 p.m. Monday at home against Nyack in their senior recognition game. 

That is part of a lacrosse double-header. The Pearl River girls will honor their seniors at the 3:45 p.m. home game against Albertus Magnus Monday. The girls game against Nanuet was rescheduled for today. 

The seeding meeting for baseball is May 20. The softball meeting is May 22.

• Softball: Kellenberg at Pearl River, noon
• Girls lacrosse: Pearl River plays Nyack in the Annual Stacey Sennas McGowen Game at MacCalman Field at 6:30 p.m.
