Pearl River's Scognamiglio Named Third-Team All-State

The New York State Sportswriter's Association released its 2012-13 girls basketball all-state selections Monday. Maeve Parahus of Albertus Magnus made the first team and Pearl River's Marissa Scognmiglio was a third team selection.

The New York State Sportswriter's Association named Pearl River senior point guard third-team all-state in Class A for the 2012-13 season.

The NYSSWA released its 2012-13 All-State girls basketball teams Monday morning. The full list can be found here

Scognamiglio was one of five Rockland County players made the lists in Class A, including teammate Amanda DeCourcey, who was named to the seventh team.

The Rockland all-state players are:

  • First team: Maeve Parahus, Albertus Magnus senior guard
  • Second team: Kristen Mclaughlin, Tappan Zee junior guard
  • Third team: Marissa Scognamiglio, Pearl River senior guard
  • Seventh team: Amanda DeCourcey, Pearl River senior guard
  • Eighth team: Ryan Doherty, Albertus Magnus junior guard

Parahus, who has signed to play college basketball at Division I Manhattan College, was a fifth-team selection as a junior. As a senior, she led Albertus to an appearance in the Section 1 Class A championship game, scoring 36 points in a 59-56 double-overtime victory over Pearl River in the semifinals.  

Scognamiglio was a first-team all-state selection in soccer this past fall. She will play college soccer at Division III College of New Jersey.
