School Board, Budget Vote Coming Up In Pearl River

The budget hearing is Tuesday and candidates night is May 10.

PEARL RIVER, NY — Voters go to the polls May 17 in Pearl River to vote on a proposed budget for 2022-23 and to pick two trustees for the Board of Education.

The proposed $77,509, 312 spending plan is 4.78 percent higher than the current budget and will rely on a proposed 2.84 percent tax levy increase, which is under the state's tax cap. The annual budget public hearing is at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

There are two seats open on the Board of Education, and Trustees Robert Davis and Bruce Bond are not seeking re-election. Six candidates are running: Dan Robins, Nicole Lehoczky, Robert Wells, Kristen Sweeney, Denise Caunitz and Terrence Cortelli.

Trustees serve 3-year terms and are unpaid.

Candidates' Night will take place at 7 p.m. May 10 at the Pearl River High School Auditorium.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Pearl River High School's Pirate Cove, 275 East Central Ave.

To vote, you must be registered with the Rockland County Board of Elections or Pearl River School District. If you are registered but have not voted in a general or school election since 2018, you must re-register. If you are registered but have either moved into the district or moved from one address to another within the district, you must re-register.
