Spring Valley Pastor Named One of Con Edison's Top Award Winners
Orange and Rockland congratulates Melvin Mungin for being named one of the winners of Con Edison's Living Our Values Award.
From Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc.: Melvin Mungin clearly feels right at home in both the secular and sacred worlds.
He is firmly committed to science as a senior analyst in O&R’s Information Technology Department and he is deeply dedicated to the spiritual as pastor for the past 15 years at three different churches, including St. Paul’s AME Zion Church in Spring Valley for the past four years.
Mungin’s strong professional and personal skills, energy and enthusiasm to consistently make life better for his company and his community have earned him Consolidated Edison, Inc.’s highest employee honor, the “Living Our Values” award.

Consolidated Edison, Inc., O&R’s parent company, created the annual award 25 years ago to recognize and honor the values and work ethic of outstanding employees who consistently serve as positive role models in the company and in the community.
Mungin, along with four other winners from Con Edison and another O&R employee, Jon Zanger from Forestburgh, were selected from a pool of over 15,000 Consolidated Edison, Inc. employees. Each of the winners personifies the Company’s values of service, honesty, concern, courtesy, teamwork and excellence.

O&R President and CEO Tim Cawley said, “Whether he is solving a coding puzzle in the digital world or counseling a parishioner in the everyday world, Mel has some remarkable skills. He is a thoughtful, practical man of technology and a seasoned, sensitive man of social action.”
Mungin, a management employee, is a resourceful, creative, effective problem solver whose calm, rationale approach to life and its challenges, achieves results that are in keeping with the very highest standards of the company.
Since joining O&R in 2012, he has helped develop, design, implement and enhance O&R’s web and mobile applications --- all of which have made it easier for customers to do business with O&R. His broad range of technical knowledge and experience, his initiative and his leadership make him a highly valued team member and a colleague you can count on.
Mungin also is passionate about giving back to the communities where he lives and works by helping to ensure that all individuals enjoy an equal opportunity to thrive and grow spiritually, socially and economically. He is an active member of the NAACP, and Rockland Clergy for Social Justice, and a former member of the Community Accountability Board in Middletown where he worked to develop alternatives to incarceration for youthful misdemeanor offenders.
Mungin graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia with a BA in Mathematics and earned his Master of Divinity degree at Union Theological Seminary in New York City. He lives in Thiells with his wife Sonia, and their twin sons.
Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc. (O&R), a wholly owned subsidiary of Consolidated Edison, Inc., one of the nation’s largest investor-owned energy companies, is a regulated utility.
