The Kayser-Brady Memorial Tournament is Heating Up

The Kayser-Brady Memorial Tournament, which opened Sunday morning at the Anderson Field Complex in Orangeburg, continues with wins from West Nyack, Stony Point, South Orangetown and Pearl River.

Little leaguers from around Rockland County are competing in the games name for two Pearl River High School students who were killed in car accidents, 16-year-old Billy Kayser and 15-year-old Alicia Brady. (Click here for more on the tournament’s history).

Billy Kayser Memorial (Baseball)

West Nyack, 12 – Nanuet, 6:  West Nyack’s starting pitcher Kyle Dennis held Nanuet scoreless and hitless for the first three innings, while his offense built a 7-0 lead on big hits by Nicholas Murphy, Dennis, Frank Delgado (double), C.J. Archul and Julian Ferreira.

The Nanuet offense awoke in the second half of the game, led by Ryan Donohue’s 2 hits and 2 runs scored, Conor O’Brien’s two hits, and hits from Sebastian Cabral, A.J. Fitzmaurice and Christopher DiModugno. 

Jason Wain and Joey Barros also scored for Nanuet.  Archul and Murphy scored 3 times each for West Nyack.  

Pitch Counts:

  • West Nyack:  Dennis (49); Murphy (22); Ferreira (21); Delgado (39).
  • Nanuet:  Cabral (50); Donohue (56); Kyle Tully (35).


Stony Point, 14 – Congers, 5:  Stony Point, fresh off their West Nyack Tournament title, exploded for 11 runs in the first inning.  Liam Lombardi and Jacob Pian each had two hits in the outburst. 

SP’s Jordan Riello collected three hits (including two doubles) in the game, and Jake Duer scored three runs. Congers’ Brandon Colon smashed two doubles and scored two runs, and Chris Campanella and Joey Sclafani (double) had two hits each.  Dan Conti singled and scored Congers’ final run.

  • Stony Point: Brian Arduini (36); Kevin Coyle (37); Lombardi (31)
  • Congers:  Colon (31); Luke Chemerov (13); Chris Conti (74)

Alicia Brady Memorial (Softball)

South Orangetown, 10 – New City-Congers, 3:  A five-run third inning, featuring hits from Melanie Boiano, Grace Haley (double), Casey Kousalis (double) and Mikaela Hennessy, gave South Orangetown all it would need in a 10-3 win.  

South Orange pitchers Amanda Malpeli and Sydney Tobin scattered five hits and struck out eight batters.  New City-Congers’s Alana Bettello scored twice and had a hit and 4 stolen bases, while Rachel Lander collected two of New City-Congers’ hits, and contributed stellar defense at third base, snaring a hot line drive off the bat of South Orange’s Meg Murtha.

Rachel Kurkela stole New City-Congers’ first run with aggressive base running.  For South Orange, Haley had three hits, two of them doubles, and Malpeli and Murtha scored two runs each.

Inning pitched:  

  • South Orange: Malpeli (4), Tobin (2)
  • New City-Congers: Gina Bettello (4), Jessie Nelson (3)


Pearl River, 16 – Nyack-Valley Cottage, 11:  A 10-run fourth inning powered Pearl River to the victory. Erin Higgins (who scored twice), Julie Fitzgerald, Reagan Fleming, Anne Conway and Jess Scott had the key hits in that inning.  

Fitzgerald, Mary Windram (two hits), Fleming and Brigid Miller all scored twice in the game.  Nyack-Valley Cottage was led by Katie Lane’s double, single and two runs scored, two hits each from Sierra Linnin and Emma Lagana, and Jullianne Pelcak’s two runs scored.  Layla Bermudez, Christina Vozzo, Molly Hawley and Caitlyn Argo also scored for Nyack-Valley Cottage.  

Innings Pitched:

  • Pearl River: Miller (6)
  • Nyack-Valley Cottage: Carley Graff (5); Pelcak (1)
