Crime & Safety
A Very Public Personal Thank You and A NO-THANK You !

As you read this Article, there are two vicious criminals, murderers, killers, walking around New York City. In 1980, they were getting drunk in a neighborhood Bar in the small town hamlet of Pearl River, where they saw a beautiful 16 year old girl walking by in the evening and decided to drag her off the street into the back of a private home. Their intent was to rape her. In failing to do so, as she fought for her life and lost, one crushed her skull with a rock and the other stabbed her multiple times in the back. Heinous, vicious, cruel beyond words. The behavior of animals.
The local police had no trouble finding them, they were fairly trialed and sentenced to 25 years to life. They never confessed to their crime or expressed sorrow, shame, regret, remorse, responsibility or any expression of what a human being would do. Even today, one still claims to be innocent and claims the real killer is a serial killer, foolish even for a liar.
When their 25 years were up about 15 years ago, they pleaded for Parole. Everyone who knew the story spoke out in many ways to the New York State Parole Board not to let them go free.

To my comfort, two fathers stepped forward to help the public's cry for justice reach the ears, minds and hearts of the Parole Board. They had some early success, but ultimately 2 years ago and this year the Parole Board gave the would-be rapists freedom.
Sadly, the victim, Paula Bohovesky, were denied freedom of life and her Mother freedom from a profound painful sadness, loneliness and emotional agony to know her beloved only daughter's killers can be walking around Central Park right now. Justice was denied.

Ergo, I hope everybody will send a "No-Thank" you to the their State Government Representatives and Parole Board for their callousness and indifference to the victim and the victim's loved ones. Letting murderers go free is not an enlightened humanitarian "SECOND CHANCE". It's cold cruel insensitivity toward the victims. And I hope it's not to save the tax payers money or meet a Parole Board State Quota or the foolish policy of having a Parole Board sympathetic to murderers and rapists.
At the same time I publicly offer a very sincere public "Thank You" to Bob Baird and Bill Schule, who stepped up to the plate 15 years ago for every successful Parole Board decision that delayed the paroles. I know their hearts are broken for Paula's Mother.
Both are distinguished respected leaders in Paula's home Town. Bob enjoyed a very triumphant career as a journalist for Rockland's daily newspaper, the Lo-Hud, for many years until retirement and continues to coordinate the Challenger Baseball Little League, "Touching Bases" for our County's intellectually and developmentally disabled adults, which he led its creation in 1993.
Bill Schule is the Executive Director of the Venture Foundation, which supports Camp Venture's services to our intellectually and developmentally disabled. Bill is widely know for being the lead creator of Buddy Ball Soccer.
Bill has also involved himself as a volunteer for many non-profits providing many human improvement and protection services, such as the very popular Rockland Autism Symposium.
Both gentleman put their hearts and soulsvin the effort to keep the would-be rapists in prison. They worked day and night for weeks, not for any profit or glory, only for their noble sense of responsible compassion for Lois Bohovesky, Paula's Mother.
They did all the back-stage heavy lifting under the radar with no personal gain, just no parole. They earned this old Marine my admiration and gratitude and deserves the community's also for their devotion. Neither would not want me to write this, which I knew and why I sought no editing or approval. And let it be known that I will not retract one word.
