PEEKSKILL/CORTLANDT, NY — If you’re like many of your Peekskill/Cortlandt neighbors, you may spend a good part of the holiday season with your credit card in hand buying gifts for family and friends. Coming up soon is a chance to give back to the local community.

Giving Tuesday, which in 2024 falls on Dec. 3, is a day dedicated to supporting nonprofit and community groups. Since 2012, nonprofits worldwide have used the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to galvanize fundraising, rally volunteers and add momentum to their causes.

Here are ten local nonprofits to consider getting behind on Giving Tuesday:

  • Caring for the Hungry & Homeless of Peekskill: "every person is entitled to safe, affordable housing and healthy, nutritious food. Our work focuses on housing and food equity in Peekskill and the surrounding communities and supports people living with domestic violence, veterans experiencing homelessness, immigrants, people with mental health issues, and other lower-income households."
  • Croton-Cortlandt Food Pantry: "to help to alleviate hunger among families and individuals whose income is insufficient for their needs."
  • Croton Free Library: "to encourage the joy of reading, the exploration of ideas and the pursuit of lifelong learning for the children and adults of our community.
