Car Thefts in Cortlandt, Squatter in Empty Home

Car Thefts

-On Oct. 16 at 8:31 a.m. a resident of Dimond Avenue in Cortlandt Manor reported to county police that someone removed an iPad from his vehicle while it was parked in his driveway overnight. The vehicle was unlocked when the theft occurred.

-On Oct. 16 at 7:14 p.m. a resident of Clinton Avenue reported to county police that a laptop computer was stolen from her car while it was parked outside her home. The theft occurred sometime after 9:30 p.m. the night before.

Squatter in Foreclosed Home

On Oct. 11 at 10 a.m. a Realtor called Westchester County police to report that it appears that someone has been living in a vacant home on Fowler Avenue in Cortlandt Manor that is currently in foreclosure.  The realtor was advised to change the locks on the home and advise neighbors to contact police immediately if they see anyone entering the residence.

Stealing from Old Navy

On Oct. 26 at 1:15 p.m. Andry J. Cruz, 18, of Spring Street, Peekskill was arrested by Westchester County Police Officer Rob Kelly at the Old Navy store in the Cortlandt Town Center and charged with petty larceny and fifth degree criminal possession of stolen property, misdemeanors. Cruz is charged with leaving the store without paying for $160 worth of sweaters that he concealed in a backpack. He is due in Cortlandt Town Court on Nov. 7.

Damaged Vehicle at Georges Island

On Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. a Montrose resident reported to Westchester County Police that someone broke three windows and a taillight on his car while it was parked at George’s Island Park in Montrose. The victim reported that he and several friends were involved in an earlier altercation with another person at the park. Detectives from the General Investigations Unit are investigating.

Aggressive Driver Reported

On Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. a Cortlandt Manor resident reported to county police that the driver of a red Jeep changed lanes and deliberately aimed his vehicle at her as she walked across Route 6 near the Bear Mountain Parkway.  She was unable to observe the vehicle’s license plate.
