Cortlandt Woman Accused Of Forging Check

Police also said the woman also damaged the home of the person whose check she was accused of forging.

CORTLANDT, NY — A Cortlandt woman in her 70s was accused of forging a check and damaging someone’s home.

The New York State Police said Bertha Bynes, 73, of Cortlandt, was arrested and charged Dec. 29 with second-degree forgery and third-degree criminal mischief, felonies.

Authorities said, on Dec. 15, troopers and investigators began checking into damage to a victim’s residence as well as the forgery of a check belonging to the victim.

The investigation identified Bynes and led to her arrest.

She was arraigned in the Town of Cortlandt Court and released on her own recognizance.

Bynes is scheduled to reappear before the court Jan. 9.
