District Appoints Frederick Hutchinson as Principal of Peekskill High School

The information below was provided by the Peekskill City School District: The Peekskill Board of Education has appointed Frederick W. Hutchinson as the new principal of Peekskill High School, effective July 1, 2012.
Mr. Hutchinson is currently the Director of Reading and Gifted for the Peekskill Schools. He was appointed to that position in 2011, following an assignment as an English and Reading teacher at Peekskill High School.
Hutchinson replaces Sherrill Murray-Lazarus, who is completing her second year as principal. Her resignation, effective June 30, was accepted without public comment by the Board of Education March 20.

Prior to joining Peekskill, Mr. Hutchinson served as a school improvement specialist at the Eastern New York Regional School Support Center where he developed educational programs and assisted with improving differentiated accountability standings in public education. He previously taught English in the Cairo-Durham School District, where he was named Teacher of the Year 2005-2006 by the Rotary Club. He also taught English in the Ichabod Crane Central School District; both are located in upstate New York. Mr. Hutchinson has a B.A. degree from SUNY New Paltz in secondary education and English, an M.S. degree in Literacy grades 5-12 from SUNY Albany, and SBL/SDL certification in Education Leadership from the College of St. Rose.
