Five Things You Need to Know Today, Feb. 15

Blustery forecast, Town Board meeting, fundraisers, Peekskill BOE meeting.

 1.     Lakeland High School NHS Donating Books

Lakeland High School’s National Honor society will be donating a large number of books to the “Reach Out and Read” program at Open Door. The effot is part of the NHS’ year-long project to support the community. The books have been collected from Lakeland school district’s elementary schools. In March the school will continue this effort by collecting both books and money from LHS students.

2.     Fundraiser at Nellie’s Café

Nellie’s Café in Peekskill is hosting a fundraiser for the Peekskill High School art department from 5 to 7 p.m. There is a $5 cover and $3 will be donated to the arts. Artwork will be displayed and music and poetry readings will be performed. 

3.     Cortlandt Town Board Meeting

4.     Peekskill Board of Education Meeting

The Peekskill BOE will be meeting at 5:30 tonight at the Peekskill City School District Administration building. The public session begins at 7 p.m.

5. Blustery weather today and 29 degrees

Don't be fooled by yesterday's weather, winter is not over. The National Weather Service reports that today will be blustery gusts as high as 31 miles per hour and a high near 29 degrees. The low will drop to 14 tonight. Don't despair - Wednesday is expected to be about 44 degrees and mostly sunny.
