Grand Openings, Wednesday Dinners and Yom Kippur
Here are five things you need to know today, Sept. 26.

1.) Voter Registration Deadline Approaching
Yesterday was National Voter Registration Day, but that doesn’t mean that it’s too late to register for the Nov. 6 general election. Mailed registration applicatons must be postmarked by Oct. 12 and received by Oct. 17 for the Nov. 6 General Election. Check here for more information.
2.) Schools Closed for Yom Kippur
Yom Kippur, also referred to as the "Day of Atonement,"and the tradition to solemnly fast for repentance and atonement of sins, began Tuesday evening at sunset. Peekskill, Hendrick Hudson and Lakeland schools are closed in observance of the holiday.
3.) Peekskill Elks Lodge Offers Dinner on Wednesdays
The Peekskill Elks Lodge, located on 1038 Brown St, Peekskill, is offering $15 dinners on Wednesday. Meals include spinach salad, fresh ham, roasted new potatoes, green beans, coffee/tea and dessert. 4.) Hair Salon to Have Grand Opening Friday
Kings & Queens Touch of Class Hair Salon, located on 702 N. Division Street in Peekskill, is having its grand opening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28. The event will feature lively entertainment with complimentary food and wine. There will be drawings for complete hair makeovers, and beauty gift baskets. In addition, Kings & Queens Touch of Class is offering 10 percent off to all new clients who book an appointment at the event.
5.) Hendrick Hudson Cheerleaders to be Featured on MSG Varsity
MSG Varsity announced that the Hendrick Hudson High School cheerleading squad will be featured in the first episode of the new season The Cheering Life. Other high school cheerleading squads featured in the first episode are: Academy of Holy Angels, Spackenkill High School, and The Ursuline School. The Cheering Life, hosted by MSG Varsity’s Suzy Stark, takes viewers behind the scenes to see what it is like to try out, train and compete as part of a cheerleading squad. The Cheering Life season premiere will air on Saturday, October 6th at 12:30 pm on MSG Varsity, Optimum TV channel 14. Once aired, episodes can also be viewed on-demand on Optimum TV channel 614 and online at www.msgvarsity.com.
