Gusty Winds, Rain In Forecast For Hudson Valley

Wind advisories were issued for the entire region with gusts up to 55 mph in some areas.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — While you are holding your umbrella you’ll need to hold onto your hats Wednesday afternoon.

Wind advisories were issued for the Hudson Valley by the National Weather Service.

The difference is when the advisories begin.

For Columbia, Dutchess and Ulster counties, the wind advisory is in effect from 2 p.m. Wednesday through 1 p.m. Thursday.

The forecast calls for 20 to 35 mph winds with gusts up to 55 mph.

For Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties, the wind advisories are in effect from 4 p.m. Wednesday through 7 a.m. Thursday.

Winds are predicted to be 15 to 25 mph, with gusts from 45 to 50 mph.

Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Trees and tree limbs could be blown down.

There could be some power outages as a result, meteorologists said.

Forecasts for northern Westchester County are saying that there could be showers and possibly a thunderstorm Wednesday, with showers after 1 p.m.

Highs will be near 60.

However, once a cold front starts moving through the region, winds will pick up and wind chill values will kick in.

There is a small possibility of snow mixing in with rain after 11 p.m.

On Thursday, the rains will have moved out, but the temps will stay in the mid-30s. Combined with winds, it will feel like it’s between 15 and 20 degrees during the day.

The forecast says winds will become much lighter after midnight.
