Italian American Idol Contest at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Feast
Eight will compete for the title at the Verplanck Italian Feast Friday.

Following in the footsteps of Americas most popular singing competition, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Society decided to create an “American Idol” contest of their own six years ago.
The group of about 30 women, the support group to the all-male Society, were pondering how to get more local people involved in the Italian Feast and conceived the Italian American Idol idea, said Ladies Auxiliary member Kacey Morabito.
To open the show this year, Peekskill Jazz singer Mary Cresenzo will perform three songs, accompanied by her husband on guitar. Then The Golden Apple Chorus, a female barbershop quartet group dressed in red, white and green Italian colors, will perform three songs.
