Lake Peekskill Man Apprehended During Early Morning Burglary

On Oct. 25, the New York State Police responded to a Putnam Valley residence following a 911 call reporting a burglary of an occupied residence. The suspect, Brett L. Augustowski, of Williams Street in Lake Peekskill, allegedly broke into the home just before 7:00 a.m., and was found by one of the homeowners, rummaging through the home's garage. Family members held the suspect at the scene until troopers arrived a few minutes later.

The defendant was processed for one count of Burglary in the Second degree, a Class "C" Felony. He was arraigned in the Putnam Valley Town Court and remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 bond. He is due to reappear in Town Court tomorrow at 1 a.m.

The arrest was made by Trooper Heather L. Sinkowitz and Investigator Sean J. Morgan.

The New York State Police would like to remind residents to keep their vehicles and homes locked. Do not leave valuables out in plain view. Secure all doors and windows when away from the home, even if only for a few hours. If you see any unusual activity please report it to your local and state police.
