Letter to the Editor: Discovering Peekskill
A Cortlandt Manor resident supports the current administration in Peekskill.

I moved to Cortlandt Manor about 6 years ago from Harrison, and prior to that lived Queens, the Bronx, and Brooklyn. I had heard from some that Peekskill was a "bad area".Â
Having lived in NYC for 7 years, I wanted no more of that, so I avoided Peekskill for probably a year after moving up here. Then I started hearing from others about the great restaurants, the Coffee House, the Coop, and of course the Paramount Theater.Â
Finally, I ventured over (two miles!), got a cup of great coffee, and strolled around. I could not figure out why anyone had ever made comparisons between Peekskill and some of the rougher parts of NYC, where I had lived.  There’s so much that's unique about Peekskill--the charming old buildings, antique street lights, clean sidewalks, and of course the businesses. The downtown is really looking great and so much has improved from when I first moved in to the area. There are so many cool bars and restaurants like Birdsall House, The Quiet Man, 12 Grapes, Beanrunner Cafe, and even karaoke at really neat place called Nellies.Â

Everyone in these shops and restaurants is so warm and welcoming too. I much prefer patronizing these interesting establishments than the big box stores and chain restaurants on Route 6.
Whoever is running the city these days, please keep up the good work. I unfortunately can't cast a vote for you (wish I could), so instead I vote with my wallet. And for anyone who is still staying away, please learn from my mistake and get over to Peekskill the next time you’re headed out to shop, or going out for some fun.
