New Items on Display for 2017

The Lincoln Depot exhibit: “New York and Abraham Lincoln: The Indispensable Relationship,” will include dozens of new artifacts on loan, including large striking oil paintings of four Union Generals of the Civil War and an original 1868 “Council of War” sculpture by John Rogers. A special new addition is a rare Union broadside to encourage the enlistment of African American soldiers. There are also many new additions to the

Election of 1860 Exhibit and an expanded Chauncey Depew exhibit, including an 1864 memo from Depew as NY Secretary of State.

An exciting new acquisition by the museum for its permanent collection is a series of original carte de visite (CDV) photos of Peekskill Military Academy Cadets from the Civil War period. These cadets were attending the academy in 1861 and were most likely in attendance when President-elect Lincoln gave his speech at the Peekskill Depot in 1861.
