Five things you need to know today, July 10.

1. Historic Verplanck Signs
The Verplanck Residents Association announced yesterday that the Town of Cortland installed “Welcome to Historic Verplanck” banners in various locations yesterday.
The VRA writes: “This was one of the many ideas that came out of the Verplanck Enhancement Plan meetings. A small group of dedicated volunteers helped choose the design and color. We are very excited that these banners were able to be installed prior to the Feast of our Lady of Mount Carmel and the Fire Department parade this weekend.”

4. Gazebo Beautified
Members of the Peekskill Business Imrpovemetn District have completed their two day renovations of the downtown gazebo. The volunteers worked on July 6 and 7 to give it a coat of new paint, replace the bulletin board, and explore new landscaping. Local BID members Frank Pugliese and Gabriel Arango have worked with the BID to move the project forward, volunteering time and materials for the effort. In addition, the BID also worked closely with the City of Peekskill to lay the groundwork for the community project.
