Here are five things you need to know today, Oct. 17.

1. Panas-Hen Hud Varsity Volleyball Face Off
At 7 p.m. the WPHS Panthers will face their rivals, HHHS Sailors, at Walter Panas in a varsity volleyball match. The game will be streamed live on msgvarsity.com/livecast at 7 p.m.
Entergy will be running security drills today and this evening. You may hear simulated weaponry that sounds like actual gunfire.

3. First Responders Golf Tournament
The First Responders golf tournament to benefit The Buchanan, Cortlandt, Croton-on-Hudson 9/11 Remembrance Memorial will take place all day today at the Hollow Brook Golf Club.

4. Government meetings
The Peekskill Committee of the Whole meeting is at 6:30 p.m. in City Hall and the Cortlandt Town Board work session is at 7 p.m. in Town Hall.
5. Welcome Jim Knight and PHS Mercury
Peekskill-Cortlandt Patch welcomes and the Peekskill High School newspaper . We are thrilled and honored to have fellow writers and reporters blogging on Patch.
PHS Mercury is run by students interested in reporting and writing under the leadership of school psychologist Jim Tosto.
