If you haven't passed by the Field Library in Peekskill lately, you may have missed a recent addition in the city: A peace pole with the words "May Peace Prevail on Earth"—written in eight languages—stands in a garden area outside the building.
The pole was installed Sept. 21, as the city celebrated the United Nation's Annual International Day of Peace.
The peace pole originated in Japan in 1955, and "May Peace Prevail on Earth" is a standard message one for peace poles across the world.
