Peekskill Police To Hold Car Seat Safety, Installation Event
Officers will be on hand to assist you in installing a new car seat or checking the safety of one that's already installed.

PEEKSKILL, NY — A car seat installation and safety inspection event originally scheduled for Saturday, March 12 has been rescheduled for Saturday, March 19 in Peekskill.
Inclement weather forced organizers to postpone last week's event, officials said.
The City of Peekskill Police Department said the event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 19 at the NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital in the Pataki Center.

Peekskill officers will be on hand to assist you in installing a new car seat or checking the safety of one that's already installed.
Organizers said they've seen a lot of car seats that have been installed incorrectly.

In fact, they said an overwhelming majority of them are so poorly installed that they could be more dangerous than not using one at all.
Some common mistakes are:
- Routing seatbelts incorrectly
- Not putting seatbelts in lock mode
- Using both the lower anchors of the latch system and the seatbelt
- Connecting the lower anchors and tethers of the latch system to the wrong points in the car, especially cargo hooks
- Forgetting to use the tether at all
- Not putting enough weight on the seat as it is being installed
