School Bus Carrying 25 Students Stops Short on Bear Mountain Parkway

Hillcrest children are complaining of neck and back injuries.

Update, June 19, 12 p.m.

Nine children were transported to the Hudson Valley Hospital Center for treatment of minor injuries, according to a Hillcrest School official. Children complained of minor head, neck and back pain.

The school district called parents and guardians to inform them of the accident. Around 10:30 a.m., Emmanuel Aquino arrived at Hillcrest to pick up his neice, who had complained of injuries from the accident.

"The said the bus was in a harsh stop and some kids ended up going to the hospital," Aquino said.

Peekskill EMS treated some students at the school, according to police.

From the Peekskill Police Department: A school bus carrying 25 elementary school children to was involved in an incident around 9 a.m. on the Bear Mtn. Parkway at N. Division Street when a vehicle getting on the parkway cut off the bus causing the bus driver to brake hard to avoid a collision. 

As a result of this incident, 25 children are complaining of neck/back injury and are being evaluated by Peekskill Paramedics at the Hillcrest School.  All injuries appear minor at this time.  The driver of the other vehicle involved has not been identified.  Peekskill Police are investigating.
