Schools Open/Closed, PHS Closed Campus Policy, Welcome Bishop Champion

Five things you need to know today, Nov. 1.

1.    Schools Open/Closed

Peekskill City School District is open. Lakeland Central School District is closed due to power outages and fallen wires. Hendrick Hudson School District has all schools open except Furnace Woods. The District announced it's closure of Furnace Woods Elementary school at 9 p.m. Monday night. Check the school website for the latest update.


2.    Welcome Bishop Michael Champion, Patch Blogger
We are happy to announce Bishop Michael Champion as our newest Peekskill-Cortlandt Patch blogger. Bishop Champion is the President of the Peekskill Area Pastors Association and the pastor of the Parroquia Católica San José in Montrose. on the 125th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty and what she represents.

3.    Peekskill Board of Education Work Session
The BOE will meet at administration center at 5:30 p.m. The closed-campus policy is scheduled for discussion and possible resolution during this meeting.

5. Power Update

As of 11 p.m. Monday night, ConEdison reported 776 Peekskill, 4,420 Cortlandt and 27 Buchanan customers without power. This means that between Sunday and Monday night around 10 p.m. the electic company restored power to 2,788 Peekskill, 722 Cortlandt and no Buchanan residents.
