Schools Open, Route 6/202 Closure, Power Update, Father Higgins to Walk to NYC

Here are five things you need to know today, Nov. 2.

1.    School is in Session
After a day or two of darkness for most area schools, all districts  - Hen Hud, Peekskill and Lakeland – are back in session today. Lakeland is on a one hour delay.


2.    Route 202/6 on Bear Mountain Closed Today

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Route 6/202 from Route 9 to Route 9D will be closed for maintenance. Click for alternative route.

3.    Power Update
 As of 11 p.m. Tuesday, 1841 Con Ed customers in Cortlandt were still without power. Only 98 Peekskill customers and 27 Buchanan customers were still in the dark, according to Con Ed’s outage map.

4.    Father Higgins to Walk to NYC
To raise money for the Assumption Church, Father John Higgins will be walking from Peekskill’s Church of the Assumption for St. Joseph’s Seminary in Yonkers, and then to St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City. His goal is to offer a Mass of Thanksgiving at the Cathedral at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 11.
The trip is part of a larger fundraising effort being undertaken by the Assumption School’s Advisory Board-- $105,000 for 105 Years of Assumption School (“105 for 105”).

5.    Foggy Morning, Sunny Day
Expect some patchy fog before 8 a.m. and an otherwise sunny day, with a high near 57 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. The low will drop to around 31 at night.
