Sen. Greg Ball Talks Jobs with Peekskill City Officials

The New York State senator visited Peekskill's Dept. of Labor office and chatted with city officials on important local issues.

Senator Greg Ball spent a few hours with Mayor Mary Foster, Deputy Mayor Don Bennett and economic development specialist James Slaughter this morning to talk jobs, infrastructure and development.

The Mayor described some of the city’s pressing infrastructure issues, Main Street traffic safety, and grant accessibility with Sen. Ball.

“I am looking forward to working with the mayor and her team and the local business community (to) really focus on infrastructure, job projects and job creation,” Sen. Ball said.

“It is critical that state and local government get together to provide a safety net for job seekers and working families during tough times.”

After a meeting at the Mayor’s office the group walked to the Department of Labor One Stop Employment office to talk to the directors about how the office serves job seekers and the local economy.

Assistant director of the One-Stop Employment Center OJ Yizar emphasized that the center needs employers to let them know when they are looking for new employees.

“The Senator’s interest in our small city’s economic growth and development is much appreciated," Mayor Foster said. "It is very important for small cities like Peekskill to have a partner in state government."

Last month, to open a satellite district office/career center in space provided by Mount Olivet Baptist Church to help job seekers and working families. Today, Ball said those plans have now been pushed back to early to mid-2012.
