This Saturday the Town of Cortlandt offers the opportunity to drop off your unwanted stuff and find a treasure in someone else's.
The Stop ‘N Swap and Green Fair, hosted by the Town of Cortlandt this Saturday, is an opportunity to get rid of your old stuff, find some new treasures and learn about healthy and green living.
“This is an opportunity for our residents to share the items that they no longer use or need with others, keeping these items out of the waste stream and putting them to good use,” said Town Supervisor Linda Puglisi.
“The Green Fair will help educate our community about how to be greener in their daily lives,” Puglisi said.

The event will be held at the Muriel H. Morabito Community Center on Westbrook Drive in Cortlandt from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. You can bring any clean, reusable, portable items to drop off and take a look at what else is offered. Donated items are not tax deductible. (Furniture and other larger items will not be accepted.)
The town’sthis spring was a great success. Tables were set up with toys, books, electronics, clothing and kitchenware. By the end of the day people had brought in air conditioners, tv monitors, dehumidifiers and other items considered “e-waste.” Items that are not picked up by residents are donated to thrift stores.

Organizers of the fall event expect to see an even bigger success this Saturday.
“Last time we were really surprised by the turn out, but this time we expect a big crowd and to have a lot great items for people to take and browse,” said Stop N’ Swap Organizer and founder of Green Team Spirit.
Glaser emphasized that people can drop off their items any time between 8:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. They will not be accepting items after 12 p.m.
In addition to the Stop ‘N Swap 16 “green” exhibitors will be on hand with information on “greening” your home, healthy living, and saving money through "green" incentives.
The event is part of the Town of Cortlandt’s green initiative. The town’s mission is to:
“protect and enhance the quality of life of Cortlandt residents and the unique environment of our area by establishing programs and policies which integrate sustainability into Town governance and planning, at the same time we want to encourage and enable Town residents and businesses to adopt sustainable practices.”
The town is working to achieve a 25 percent reduction in its energy footprint by the year 2012.
