The Hendrick Hudson School District regrets to announce the athletic fields west of Frank G. Lindsey Elementary School are partially closed until Monday October 17, 2011 due to damage sustained from vehicles driving on the fields.
On Saturday October 8, 2011, it was discovered a person or persons drove a truck through the softball, field hockey and practice football fields located to the west of the elementary school. All three fields sustained damage, rendering portions of the fields unplayable until the damage can be rehabbed according to Director of Facilities Anthony Merlini.

Hendrick Hudson School District’s grounds crew will work this week to rehab the fields with an anticipated reopening of all field space by Monday October 17, 2011, weather permitting.
“Currently the fields would not meet the expectations or requirements set forth by game officials for safe play,” remarked Athletic Director, Thomas Baker. “The fields will need to be rehabbed before athletic events can take place on them again,” he concluded.

In the interim, District officials are working with effected teams to reschedule and modify games set to take place over the next week. For updates on game and practice relocation or changes call the Athletic Hotline Daily at 914-257-5183.
“We are working to minimize the impact these closed fields have on our athletic programs. It is out hope by moving game times we will be able to accommodate most if not all upcoming games on our main field at Hendrick Hudson High School and potentially on the fields at Blue Mountain and Furnace Woods,” said Baker.
District officials are in contact with their insurance carrier to see what if any part of the damage could be covered through insurance. Additionally, the district is working with local law enforcement officials to track down the party or parties responsible for this damage.
“Vandalism of any kind, is unacceptable,” said Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Daniel McCann. “We will repair our fields to a safe playing condition as quickly as possible. If the New York State Police apprehend the individual or individuals involved it is out intent to pursue charges to the fullest extent of the law,” he concluded.
