VIDEO: Fire Engulfs Chapel Hill Condo

Firefighters put out blaze at Chapel Hill and kept it from spreading to adjoined units.

A Chapel Hill condominium was engulfed in flames around 10:30 a.m. Monday when the Peekskill Fire Department arrived. Smoke and flames were pouring out of the front bedroom window and it took firefighters about 25 minutes to distinguish the fire.

There were no injuries and no one was home at the time of the fire. A couple and their adult daughter who live in the unit stood outside in disbelief around 11:30 a.m. Monday. The couple had been at the gym at the time the fire was reported, police said.

The Westchester County Cause and Origin team was on the scene, but officials suspected no arson.

“I can’t say enough about the job the fire department did,” said Peekskill Police Lieutenant Eric Johansen. “They were able to put out the fire and keep it from engulfing the units next to it.”

Mohegan Lake, Montrose, Buchanan, Continental Village Fire Departments provided mutual aid.
