A 37-year-old Florida man, who was wanted on a 13-year-old arrest warrant for stealing batteries from the Shrub Oak A&P, was found hiding inside a closet at his former Mohegan Lake home, Yorktown police said on Tuesday.

Police said they received an anonymous tip on June 24 that Andrew W. Alfonsin, of Hudson, Fla., was back in town and police arrested him at his last known address on Mohawk Road in Mohegan Lake at approximately 7 p.m.

Police found him hiding inside a closet.

Alfonsin was wanted on an arrest warrant for a fourth-degree grand larceny, a felony, for stealing batteries from the Shrub Oak A&P on Sept. 29, 2000. The arrest warrant was issued in November 2000.

Another warrant was issued on Feb. 7, 2002, after Alfonsin violated the terms of his probation in reference to a past arrest for second-degree criminal contempt.

Det. Brian Shanahan, Sgt. Michael Zaicek and police officers Michael Madaus and Ryan Noone were involved in the arrest.

Alfonsin was remanded to the Westechester County Jail in lieu of $10,000. He was scheduled to appear in Yorktown Town Court on Tuesday, June 25.
