7 Pelham Nonprofits To Support This Holiday Season

PELHAM, NY — If you’re like many of your Pelham neighbors, you may spend a good part of the holiday season with your credit card in hand buying gifts for family and friends. Coming up soon is a chance to give back to the local community.
Giving Tuesday, which in 2024 falls on Dec. 3, is a day dedicated to supporting nonprofit and community groups. Since 2012, nonprofits worldwide have used the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to galvanize fundraising, rally volunteers and add momentum to their causes.

Here are seven local nonprofits to consider getting behind on Giving Tuesday:
- Family Services of Westchester (Purchase hq, White Plains, Katonah, Hastings-on-Hudson, Mount Vernon, Pelham, Port Chester, Sleepy Hollow, White Plains, Yonkers): "provides mental health and social services that strengthen and support families, children and individuals at every stage of their lives."
- Friends of the Town of Pelham Library: "run special events and raise money to help our Library remain a vibrant community resource. Every year, funds the Friends have raised enhance the services provided by the Town’s appropriation to the Library by supporting programs for adults and children, access to electronic information and other new technology such as e-books, new computers, new furniture, some repairs and special additions to the collection. The Friends also sponsor community-wide celebrations such as Booktemberfest as well as the annual Kindergarten Day at the Library when kindergarteners get their first library card."
- Junior League of Pelham: "committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable."
- Pelham Art Center: "committed to providing access to study, experience and appreciate the arts. The Pelham Art Center strives to be a vibrant, engaging arts space that provides unique opportunities to learn and enhance artistic skills and practices. With community at our core, we welcome participants of diverse backgrounds to foster connections and encourage the open exchange of ideas."
- Pelham Civic Association: "dedicated to promoting civic involvement and assisting those in need. Our programs make a life-changing difference for hundreds of people every year, from young children to students, families, senior citizens, and those facing medical or financial hardship."
- Pelham Education Foundation: "seeks to enhance the quality of public education in Pelham with the help of parents, students, educators, alumni, businesses and foundations. "
- The Picture House (Pelham, Bronxville): " to create a shared community experience for diverse audiences through film, education programing and unique cultural offerings."
