Closures Scheduled For Portions Of Hutchinson Parkway

Crews will be performing construction and demolition activities for a bridge project.

PELHAM, NY — A portion of the Hutchinson River Parkway is expected to be closed beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 30 and reopen before 5 a.m. Monday, July 2, according to the state Department of Transportatioin. As part of ongoing bridge replacement projects in Westchester County, a portion of the parkway between Exit 6 (Interstate 95) and Exit 15 (Cross County Parkway) is planned to be closed while crews perform construction and demolition activities for the East 3rd Street bridge project, weather permitting. The closure affects the Village of Pelham and the City of Mount Vernon.

Signed detours will be in place for northbound and southbound traffic. Northbound traffic on the parkway will be detoured at the I-95 interchange. Southbound traffic will be diverted to the Cross County Parkway and the Bronx River Parkway for points south. All on ramps to the Hutchinson River Parkway south of the construction site (at the East 3rd Street overpass) will be accessible for southbound traffic.

Motorists are advised to follow the posted detours, anticipate delays and plan travel accordingly.

Drivers are asked to use caution when traveling through the work zone area and pay attention to all traffic control devices, including signs and flaggers.

This month, the DOT and the governor’s Traffic Safety Committee unveiled a new public service announcement and social media campaign focused on the importance of respecting flagging personnel. This year’s work zone safety campaign, “Flaggers have families too,” is designed to remind motorists that flagging personnel are not attempting to disrupt traffic — they are simply doing their jobs and want to get home safely at the end of each work day.

Motorists are reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
