
PELHAM, NY—Thanksgiving is all about celebrating family, enjoying good food and giving thanks. To give everyone a chance to celebrate, many places are closed. No need to worry, though, if you run out of last-minute ingredients while preparing the day's feast. A few stores are open, even if for a limited schedule.
Here's what's closed:
- Government offices
- The U.S. Post Office. There will be no mail delivery from the U.S. Post Office.
- There is also no UPS or FedEx pickup or delivery.
- Public libraries are closed.
- School will be out for the rest of the week.
Metro-North Railroad
On Thanksgiving Day, Metro-North will provide additional inbound morning service for customers going to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, which kicks off at 9 a.m. Thursday from 77th Street and Central Park West and ends in front of Macy's at Herald Square.

There will also be expanded outbound service starting in the late morning and continuing until mid-afternoon for customers traveling to suburban destinations. For customers returning to New York City, there will be expanded evening service.
For west-of-Hudson service Thursday, there will be the following:

- The Port Jervis Line operates a weekend schedule with one extra round-trip train to accommodate parade-goers.
- An eastbound train departs Port Jervis at 6:18 a.m., makes all stops to Suffern, then express to Secaucus Junction and Hoboken, arriving at 8:30 a.m.
- A westbound train departs Hoboken at 12:20 p.m., stops at Secaucus Junction and then operates express to Suffern and all stops to Port Jervis, arriving at 2:33 p.m.
- The Pascack Valley Line operates a normal weekend service.

Last Minute Groceries
Are you likely to forget the cranberry sauce, the gravy or the whipped topping for the pumpkin pie? Some stores are open, but many of the big chains are not. BJ's, Costco, Sam's Club, Target, Trader Joes and Walmart are closed on Thanksgiving.
As always, it's best to call ahead just to make sure.
- Adam's Fairacre Farms: All stores will be closed on Thanksgiving.
- CVS: Open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. but it varies by store so call to check.
- DeCicco & Sons: All stores will be closed Thanksgiving.
- Rite Aid: Most stores will be open, hours vary. Call ahead to confirm.
- ShopRite: Most stores will be open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., call ahead to check.
- Stew Leonard's — Yonkers: The Yonkers store will be open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.; no seniors hours.
- Stop & Shop: 6 a.m to 3 p.m. but check your store.
- Walgreens: varies by store
- Wegman's: Stores will be open 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
