Casino Proposal Has Plainview People Wondering

Published reports indicate talks are underway to dramatically expand casino gambling in New York

Several major news outlets reported that Gov. Andrew Cuomo is in discussions to dramatically expand casino gambling in New York.

One of the sites mentioned was a non-specific location on the "Nassau-Suffolk border."

Plainview Patch readers expressed private concerns this weekend that such a location has been mentioned before and in connection with the former Nassau County property now owned by Charles Wang.

At this time, there are no substantiated reports to indicate that site is even under discussion.

The report, which originated with the Associated Press out of Albany, described "closed-door negotiations to expand casino gambling in New York, according to the head of the Nassau County Off-Track Betting Corp. and a legislative bill.

The bill, with sponsors in the majority parties in the Legislature, calls for a casino with 2,000 video slot machines run by the Off-Track Betting agencies in Nassau and Suffolk counties.

"It's huge," Nassau County OTB President and CEO Joseph Cairo told The Associated Press. "The Senate has indicated to me it is part of the discussions of the overall (casino) package."
