Giving 5 In Plainview
Patch employees take part in a program to give back to their communities.

As a local editor for Plainview and Massapequa Patch, I'm used to daily deadline pressure, but on Tuesday I had a very different type of deadline.
I was honored to be a volunteer for Plainview's Meals on Wheels program, but as a substitute driver, I needed to get moving.
The program is a partnership between North Shore LIJ's Plainview Hospital and the Visiting Nurse Association. Each day, both hot and cold meals are provided to the elderly or those unable to prepare food for themselves .
I volunteered as part of Patch's Give 5 program, which allows our employees to take time out from our normal day jobs to give back back to the communities we served.
I was guilty of making a few wrong turns along the way, putting me behind schedule. But I'm happy to say all of the meals were successfully delivered.
I want to thank all of the people on my route for their patience with a new driver as well as Janine Wolff and Heather Angstreich for giving me the opportunity to volunteer.
If you'd like to volunteer for the Plainview Meals on Wheels program, call 516-739-1292.
