'Heart And Sole' 5K Benefitting 2 Nassau Hospitals Goes Virtual

The 5K will not be held as a live event this year due to the coronavirus. You can still raise money for Plainview and Syosset hospitals.

PLAINVIEW, NY — An annual running event that raises money for Syosset and Plainview hospitals will not be held live this year due to the coronavirs crisis, but organizers are encouraging runners to try out a whole new experience.

The 17th annual "Heart and Sole 5K" will not be held in person this year, organizers said on the event's website. But those still hoping to run or walk for a good cause can do so virtually this year.

Or, more accurately, remotely.

Participants can pay a $25 fee plus an additional sign-up fee and are asked to complete their run any time between Sunday, July 19 and Saturday, July 25. Registration ends July 25 at 11:59 p.m.

Participants can print out their racing bib and are encouraged to take a photo and share it on social media. They can also submit their results through July 25.

Proceeds will support the Deborah Tascone, RN Caregiver Center at Plainview Hospital.

Participants in the 5K will be mailed "Heart & Sole Run/Walk" shirts and be entered into a contest to win a flat screen, smart, high-definition TV.

A quarter-mile fun run is also available. Participants must pay a $7 virtual race fee and additional sign-up fee.

Fun-run participants will be mailed a finishers medal.
