Plainview Water District Announces Hydrant Flushing
Program begins Sunday and runs through Friday; water is safe to drink.
The Plainview Water District announced its 2013 hydrant flushing program as part of it’s ongoing effort to improve water quality for customers.
The program will flush all the district’s fire hydrants during a one-week period beginning Sunday.
In a statement from Commissioners Joel Kessler, Andrew Bader and Edward Shulroff, the hydrant flush serves two main purposes: one to remove any sediment from water mains and second to allow the Plainview Water District (PWD) to physically study the operations of each hydrant to ensure they are in prime working order.

The program will be performed at no additional cost to the district due to the shifting of employees’ work hours from day to night for the time period the flushing will take place. Slight variations in water pressure and/or color may occur during this period, and although the water is completely safe to drink it may stain laundry.
Residents are advised to check watercolor before they participate in a project that requires clear water during the weeklong flushing period.
