Westbury Animal Hospital Evacuated

A "noxious odor" is being investigated after several employees became ill, officials said.

Pets and people are safely back inside a Westbury animal hospital after being evacuated Wednesday morning due to toxic fumes.

Police were called at 11:25 a.m. after a report of a “noxious odor” inside Veterinary Referral & Emergency Center of Westbury, located at 609 Cantiague Rock Road, officials said.

Fire officials responded along with NCPD crews and the building was vacated, cops said. About 20 animals were safely evacuated as well, according to News 12.

Several people were treated at the scene after saying they felt ill, cops said. No one needed further medical attention, police said.

Officials at the scene believe the fumes may have been caused by a mix of bleach and ammonia, according to the report.
