Stop & Shop Bolsters Pace University’s Food Pantry ‘Pace Market’
$7,500 Donation Made as Need for Food Assistance Increases

Pace University and Stop & Shop held an oversized check presentation, as funds from the donation will help fund the University’s food pantry, ‘Pace Market’ for the upcoming school year. The ‘Pace Market’ serves the Pace University community, and for the second consecutive year, it will be supported by a $7,500 donation from Stop & Shop that will enable the University to assist more than 2,500 students, faculty and their families by purchasing specific food items and other essential products.
The ‘Pace Market’ was founded in January 2023 and in two years, it has seen a 100% increase in students and faculty using its food pantry. 29% of students at Pace University are Pell eligible and 25% are first generation college students. The ‘Pace Market’ is open seven days a week and serves the Pace University community all year round. The ‘Pace Market’ offers its students and faculty shelf stable food, canned food, fresh veggies, meat, prepared meals, and personal care items, such as toothpaste, deodorant, and feminine care products.
“The Pace Market has become an essential resource for so many of our students, faculty and staff,” said Dr. Jeffrey Barnett, Pace University Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean for Students. “It serves as a reflection of our community's dedication to creating an environment where everyone has access to the resources necessary for success. The Pace Market not only addresses the nutritional needs of students, faculty, and staff, but also enhances the sense of belonging and care within our university and larger Pace community. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Stop & Shop for this donation in support of the Pace Market and we are incredibly thankful for your continued partnership for the 2nd year in a row. Thank you for helping us ensure that everyone at Pace has the resources they need to succeed.”

The Stop & Shop School Food Pantry Program was established to help limit barriers impacting students’ ability to succeed in the classroom by making sure that they have consistent access to food. Stop & Shop supports local schools’ existing food pantries or helps them establish a new one by providing gift card donations to help stock their shelves.
“Stop & Shop is proud to support the efforts of Pace University, because every student, faculty member and their families should receive access to nutritious food and not need to worry about if they will be able to afford their next meal,” said Daniel Wolk, External Communications Manager for Stop & Shop. “The Pace Market does a terrific job ensuring its community members receive necessary food daily, so they have the best opportunity to succeed both inside and outside the classroom.”
