PORT CHESTER, NY — Port Chester officials say traffic and parking changes are coming as the Tarry Lighthouse project remakes downtown as we know it.

Starting Thursday, the Tarry Lighthouse project is relocating barriers onto North Main Street in advance of the building construction, according to the village. Over the next several weeks and throughout the next year, the project will demolish the remaining building and begin the planned phased downtown construction.

Officials said the development has received all necessary permits through the NY State Department of Transportation for its filed pedestrian safety plan (including these barriers). The project has also secured both demolition and building permits for the upcoming work. The construction has also been approved by the Village of Port Chester.

"We know that these barriers will cause for congestion and inconvenience for many in the downtown area, however, we must do our best to remain patient and cooperative," village officials said in a traffic and parking alert. "The village has already implored the developer to take extra precautions as construction moves forward to keep proactive channels of communication open with the local businesses, the Village Manager's office and the public and to demonstrate its ability to be a good neighbor."
